Paradoodles are a Hool made word, well at least in the context I am using it. I think it may be some kind of composite poodle? Moreover, when I was writing my Master’s Thesis at RISD I called these autodidactEYEdoodles, because it was a way to teach myself a concept and conduct research through an artistic map or doodle. However, I was thinking I needed to add the drumming component to the title as much of my writing and art is created through drumming or informed by drumming culture.
I thought about the rudiments of drumming and one of the most common is called the paradiddle. The sticking is R L RR L R LL. I also thought about the prefix para. Para means beside or against. I was thinking about how concepts beside each other represented with a “doodle” (rough/casual drawing) ideas, terms, and theories become more clear. Concepts especially became more clear as I had read them, documented my reaction, added notes with both text and drawing all while constructing a map that was concrete to refer back to.
I also thought about the multi-sensory aspect of two modalities side by side. Two things that bring me life and purpose: drumming and drawing.
